Kasama Livestock Farm is a 100% minority-woman owned and 100% women-operated farm in the beautiful North Georgia mountain town of Ellijay. Kasama prides itself on raising pigs and chickens in the most natural way possible: not in buildings with concrete floors, but in open-air paddocks where they can get sunshine and engage in inherent behaviors like foraging, rooting, wallowing, and socializing.
Kasama’s pork program combines heritage breeds (Hampshire, Berkshire, and KuneKune), seeking to bring out the best qualities of each breed and avoiding the genetic engineering found in standard commercial breeds. Even though this practice makes the grow-out time a bit longer than what it takes a factory farm to produce pork, Kasama feels good assuring its customers that they’re getting a quality product that had Only One Bad Day.
